MARSHALL - Tom Klug was on Thursday night.
The Jefferson Blue Devils left-hander walked just one batter while striking out nine, and, oh yeah - didn't allow a hit - pitching a no-hitter in a 7-0 Home Talent Night League win at Marshall Fireman's Park.
Just four Marshall players reached base on the veteran southpaw as Klug improved to 6-7 this season.
The Blue Devils moved to 4-3 in the HTNL Eastern Section, and are now 13-10 on the year.
Klug's no-hitter is the fifth in Jefferson Blue Devils history and the first since Mike Beyer blanked Cambridge on July 2, 2004. Other Blue Devil no-no's include Dean Beyer (4-0 over Utica, June 21, 1981), Dan Hebbe (15-0 over Fort Atkinson, Aug. 11, 1985) and a combined no-hitter by Jeff Kober, Mike Laesch and Mike Klug (7-0 over Utica, May 28, 1997).
Klug and Firemen starter Aaron Brunker were involved in a pitcher's duel throughout the first four innings, not allowing a single run between them.
Jefferson got to Brunker in the fifth, though, scoring five times.
Klug helped his own cause drawing a one-out walk before Trent Probst singled and Javier Rodriguez reached on an error to load the bases. Justin Thiede brought home the first run drawing a walk, and recently named HTL All-Star Craig Lange hit a two-run single upping the Blue Devil lead to 3-0.
Bowe Bushey and Chris Folbrecht followed with RBIs extending Jefferson's lead to 5-0.
Chris Folbrecht's two-run double in the seventh gave Jefferson a 7-0 cushion.
With the no-hitter still intact Klug took the hill in the bottom of the seventh. Working quickly, Klug struck out Chris Schwab before Gary Pashley popped out to Trent Probst at first and Andy Sillman flew out to Dan Doebereiner in right giving Klug the no-hitter.
Folbrecht finished the night 2-for-4 with three RBIs, while Lange drove in two and Probst went 2-for-3 to pace the Blue Devils offense.
Jefferson will host its annual Trifecta with Fort Atkinson this Sunday. At 1 p.m. the Blue Devils face the Fort Generals in a HTL Southeast Section game. Fort Atkinson leads the East Division with a 10-1 record, while Jefferson and Cambridge are tied for second at 7-4.
Following the game the Jefferson and Fort Atkinson American Legion teams square off in a State Line League game at 5 p.m.
There will not be a Junior Legion game as in the past.
